Hendrika was in San Francisco with her parents for the 1939 Golden
Gate International Exposition. Two hundred and fifty thousand tulip
bulbs had been donated by Holland, and the gardens here were more
glorious than anything back home. It was a good time to be in America
and she hoped the family could stay...
