Lola
Lola wasn’t dressed yet and she especially wanted to be on time tonight. It would be her second date with Joel, not that she really considered the chance encounter in Carson Park a "date". He was the new typesetter in her grandfather's print shop, and when he strolled by the bandstand just as the concert was ending, she tilted her parasol back and smiled a greeting. He bought cream sodas for them to sip as he walked her home, and asked if she would accompany him to a play the following Sunday.

The week had flown by, and at the same time, there had been hours when the clock hands just froze in place. But now he would be arriving any minute and her petticoat was in a ruffled disarray on the bed and she couldn't find her new shoes.

At the front door, Joel was straightening his new necktie before ringing the bell...

Commissioned doll, not for sale.
